Yesterday (26th June), ”Isle of MTV Malta Special” took place near Malta’s capital city - Valletta and will.i.am, together with his guests - Eva Simons and Tyler James, was one of the performers. Unfotunatelly we don’tknow setlist yet, but it’s probably similar to the one he performed at Hackney Weekend few weeks ago. We’ve added some photos to our video as well on MQ video, check it below this article. The entire show will be broadcast on MTV on 1st August.
Will arrived at island on Sunday and during his stay there he talked to madies and took some photos in front of the sea of Malta. Check them out by clicking on thumbnails and read an interview below.
Many sites reviews realize that Malta is more designed for older generations. Do you think MTV made the right decision in choosing Malta as the destination for the 6th consecutive year? Your goal is to attract younger people to your show?
Will: I’ve been here three years ago and many young people came, I saw many older people. But these people are nice, everyone can watch me performing on stage, I do not care. The more the better.
You recently made a huge donation to the Prince Trust. There are some charitable causes that you’re more inclined to support?
Will: What else do I do with passion is the one gift that all income goes to education, particularly education focused on science and technology.
What makes education its number one cause?
Will: Education solves many problems, health issues, employment and so on. With education, instead of looking for a job, you create a job. Education makes people know about differences and tolerance because you understand where particular culture came. Education is everything.
To extend an American context, you openly supported Obama. Do you think he has exceeded your expectations, you like how he tackled the problems of education?
Will: That’s a good question. People’s expectations were unrealistic. A person can not solve a big problem in the world. We watched many movies, like Superman. So first of all, we must understand how the Obama campaign was ‘Yes We Can’, and ‘we’ is important, not just ‘you’ .
Talking about his show for MTV in Malta, as is to be with his own band instead of a group of singers?
Will: Normal as a common performance, will sing two songs and then I will do a DJ-set.
Where are you going after the show?
Will: I will go home to continue my work on my new album willpower to get it ready. I’m working with Eva Simons, Robin Thicke and James Tyler of The Voice UK. I look forward to working with these talented people.
